The 2016 bike got rave reviews and built up with the right gear easily under 7kg

Izalco Max Disc - thought I had found the frameset but is wasn't!

not ridden one mind but been lusting after one for awhile

they only have AG2R team coloured one on the site.

Cheers great find. Was deliberating to go the whole hog and swap to one of these bikes.
  • I was going to suggest buying a SuperSix Evo Disc and selling all the bits. But, sadly, no internal routing.

This will be my next Di2 disk frameset...

And comes in at half your budget, will be handmade to your personal specification and perfectly fitted. Add to that what an absolutely fantastic looker it is and in my mind it is a no brainer. Classy, beautiful, individual, specced exactly as you want it. 8)

With that sort of budget you could get something custom made

That is a stunning bike, but the website is like some sort of antique from the distant past

Agreed, but you are buying a bike, not a web design from the guy...;-)

Not sure what you have now, assume a disc brake bike and you are looking to swap your gear on to a frame? The wheels will cause an issue as so many different combo's the Focus uses bolt thru front and back. Cannondales QR back and front etc. That's a big lump if you have ot buy wheels leaving only really you Groupset and saddle etc.

Sometimes better value can be had buying the full bike, you could get the eTap one for 5200 :-) There is a new Large 2016 SRAM Red one kicking around on eBay and a Zipp wheeled XL used and Sigma Sport for around 3400 sure they would haggle over it. It was the only stock they ever had god know why they bought the Large as a display model.

My Caad 10 Disc Black Inc is the most versatile, rapid, stiff , comfortable frame I have ridden. It also takes up to 32mm tyres can act as a gravel bike or run 25s and it turns into an out and out racer. All for the cost of £350 8) Its a frame and one think I have learnt is that you don't need to spend big bucks to get quality.

    Yes blue.

I'm hoping from reading the reviews it'll be as lively as my favourite ever frame I owned a Cannondale CAAD9:

Never had a carbon frame comes close to this baby and I'm gutted to this day I passed it on for a carbon frame.

With longer wheelbase, slacker headtube and 'more comfortable' tubing this might be closer to your Defy rather than CAAD. Please, let us know after you get some rides in, it's a good looking frame, none the less.
  • I was going to suggest looking at some of the Niner bikes as they have a sale on but those Mason's are top notch. Excellent wheels too. Look forward to seeing it

    Erm, CAAD 12 disc frameset?!

    Bastard

Food for thought! Mason is £1095 and the Caad12 £595. Is the Mason £500 better than the Caad12?

Err no and if it is it will be by a cats whisker :P you are paying for exclusivity and having had a few unusual bikes I've gone back to Specialized and Cannondale that said the Mason is really nice but not worth twice the price
  • I was pondering a Mason but couldn't work out the idea or having a thru-axle/direct-mount fork and QR/post-mount frame.

Isn't that a nightmare for getting wheels and groupset? You'd need older post mount calipers wouldn't you so bit pointless having the direct mount on the fork?

Probably completely wrong on all that so I'll shut up there (and I saw sense and got a rim brake frame in the end....).

A lot of Disc Wheels now have thru axel and QR adapters. I have Hunt wheels and these can be fitted using either.

Mason provide a flat to post mount adapter for the fork. Shimano make them like using a adapter for larger discs.

I agree though it's a bit bit arse about face but I believe the CAAD is the same.

I was looking a deda frames today. They have some unpainted framesets available to account holders with Chicken cycles. Special order only. They are well under your budget and one can be painted any colour you like. I quite like that idea.
