Lightweight waterproof jacket - recommendations please!

Looking to invest in a new waterproof jacket (road). Currently have a £50 Altura but it doesn't stow easily in jersey pocket and is not that breathable.

Can anyone recommend something, that is breathable, lightweight, stowable in jersey pocket and sub-£100. Must be properly waterproof for longer rides i.e. not just shower proof.

Cheers

Endura FS260-Pro Adrenaline Race Cape, is about as good as you'll get for the money.

  • I've got the Endure FS260 shell, and it's fantastic. A little bit over budget, though.

Looked at that jacket many times, it looks great. I do rate the Galibier stuff it deserves to be better known.

Galibier kit rocks, the foul weather gilet is a stunning piece of kit too.

This. Great piece of kit for the cash. I'm also a big fan of the Rapha race cape but it costs more and is a smudge bigger to pack down.

Ordered this yesterday at 7.30am, it arrived this morning. Superb. Super light, I went flouro to match my winter helmet and shoes and for the money a bargain. Italian 2XL for me which fits well and akin to a UK 44 inch chest. Cannot go wrong with Sportful at that money. Merlin on it again !

Description says it is 'light rain resistant' only. So sadly not going to be waterproof.
    Also no mention of breathability.

I've got that jacket as my commuting jacket, lives in my Carradice for pulling out in showers. Definitely the occasional shower sort and not for all day rain. Its not bad, lots of reflectives, usual excellent Sportful fit, material does not flap at all. But the flip side is that its not particularly breathable or water resisitant, and it doesn't pack particularly small for the level of protection it provides.

    I paid £15 for mine.

Just seen and Wiggle have the same jacket for £17.50.

Still wouldn't recommend it if you want a waterproof but it's decent value for emergency shower protection.

    I've been mugged. LOL.

Oh well, its only money
  • I've been contemplating the PX Bright Ride convertible gillet jacket for an all-rounder, but they are extracting the urine with their price yo-yoing again, it's now jumped from £20 to £30!

Like the look of that Endura FS260 for something that won't boil me in the bag, only it looks like it has no large zipped pocket. :(

I'm half-heatedly trying to find a breathable jacket that can securely hold my ~8"x5" Nexus 7 2013, just like my ~2006 Endura Convert can (but it's lost most of the waterproof inner), currently used both for Strava and as something to get an interweb fix on when I'm out (using the BT roaming wi-fi that comes with Infinity "fibre" home broadband).

The Sportful No-Rain Hotpack. Fits the bill.

I also have the standard Hotpack 5 which is a showerproof windstopper - which I'd highly recommend if someone's after something to keep them warmer for descents etc.

You could always send it back, assuming you haven't worn it.

For me too, Endura if it looks like it may rain and Rapha if it is raining!
