Looking to get my 12yr old a proper mtb this xmas. Got a budget of up to £400. I know I'm not going to get anything good at this price range. We do a bit of off road trails and occasional attempt the Olympic course at Hadleigh as on our doorstep!
As he's only just over 5ft tall (or 155cm), only looking at x-small/small frames, 14-15").
Had the following suggested to me:

http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Specialized-Pit ... _95258.htm

Also hear good things about Rockrider but not sure if will get anything decent at this price range.
Suggestions/advice welcome.

Those are all pretty rubbish, a Carerra Vulcan would be better than any of those.
But this is, by a mile. The Best Buy.

As with any coil sprung fork though, you may have to change the spring for his lack of weight.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Thanks. Will try and get him to try the Rockrider for size. Medium is smallest frame size (165cm upwards).
Let's hope he has a growth spurt over the next 3 months!0 -
will also keep an eye out for this:
