protecting forks

hello, in need of help once again lol.
right iv searched the web for something that can cover the top part of forks (sorry new to all this so dont know proper name) as the cables keep etching away the paint and all i find is kind of sticky pads, is this the best thing for it or can any of you lovely folk recommend anything else. ill include pic.
