Looking at a £500 bike.
seen the below trek at a local store and wondered if there is anything else £500 or under worth buying instead?
https://www.evanscycles.com/trek-x-cali ... e-EV242017
Is this bike worth the £120 more than a calibre two two ?
Thanks in advance.

also ,. will be doing a mixture of riding ,( just learning the ropes )
fancy a 29er but 27.5 would probably be ok if the overall package is much better.

It's roughly on a par with the Calibre - slightly better fork, but not as good divetrain. Certainly wasn't worth £650, though £520 is fair value.
For the same price though you can get this:

Thanks .
I do like the colours of the boardman.:-). I looked at one of those 5 mins before the evans bike...
Wasn't sure if it was a better fork than the trek..0 -
The Raidon is a better fork the 30 silver in my opinion - air and rebound adjustable, lighter, wider alloy stanchions - works very well. The 30 Silver is a bit smoother in action, but can get a bit hyperactive and bounce around a bit, espcially under hard pedalling efforts. Though you can lock it out.0

I could stretch to the bizango at £600 ( less with bc 10% off ) is there anything that matches or betters it that is under £600 ?

Listen to the experts, the bizango has won best bike for quite some years, it's very good for he money.
Also if you get 10% off with BC and then order Halfords vouchers off the business website with the 10% off you'll get the bike for £486 which is a really good price.
The bizango has the best fork you will get for that money, a really solid and smooth drivetrain with the deore and the shimano brakes are very good, I have them on my hardtail and they are great for that price range.
You also get a good frame, seats comfy and the tyres are great for trails.0 -

Hmmm think website has change to: http://halfordsb2b.co.uk/home.asp but don't think you can order online. Still the bikes a bargain0

If you are going for the voodoo, sign up to one of the cash back sites and go through them to the Halfords website and order the bike online for collection in the store and pay for it in the store, NOT online. show your BC card in store to get the 10% off, you will also get some money back from the cash back site via your bank account.
https://www.topcashback.co.uk/halfords/ other sites are available, I used this one when I purchased a voodoo bike for my nephew.0
