Rapha Brevet Jersey Long Sleeve

  • Yep. It's a slightly misleading description arguably, which I shall pick up in my review, but not a big issue really.

Glad I found this! Got rid of my old Brevet because it wasn't windproof, but now find they have made it what it should always have been.
  • This is a better representation of how it actually looks.

  • Struggling. I want to like it. It's perfectly nice. But, I think it was an error to use the thin merino and/or not describe it as a lightweight brevet long sleeve. And, I dunno, with all the windproofing I can't escape the feeling it's a shell suit with some merino at the back. It's very good at 6-7 degrees without a base layer. Should be perfectly fine later at 15 degrees. I think that it IS very audaxy. I can see someone napping under a tree and being quite comfy wearing it. So I think that it has true worth. But outside audax it might be a bit niche.

Am thinking the normal one as I have Gabba Long Sleeve already and I'd guess the windblock one is going to be about as warm as that and the normal one less warm... logic/guesswork sound about right?

I suppose the Brevet range is suited to long distance events such as Randonneuring or Audaxing hence the non race fit.

    It's aimed at exactly that.

  • It is. But it's fair to test it for a broader audience. Many people wear the short and long sleeve as short and long sleeve with added value. If the thing has no added value that doesn't mean it won't excel for audax but isn't necessarily all that useful for other purposes. That's pretty much how I feel about the Brevet shell suit.

Oh, just noticed they do a Winter windproof jersey for £160. Surely worth the extra £15 notes for the extra warmth.

Yes, or no, depending on what you're expecting. The winter jersey is very warm and quite versatile. The Brevet windproof has a much wider range though. You could wear it at 17 or so because the merino is about 180gsm weight (bit like the old dhb merino thickness). So different apples.

I'm writing up a review of the windproof but will be moving it on once done. It's not me and it doesn't suit my use. It'd be bang on for a spring 400 miler with sleeping in bus stops mind.

The winter jersey is a very different animal and suited to very cold, dry weather. It's a very heavy and think jersey.

  • Oh and the winter jersey should never ever go anywhere near any rain. The Brevet shouldn't but at least it will dry quickly/overnight.

    Hmm, bit disappointing then?

Suspect if you pair it up with a long sleeve base you're bordering on total warmth of the winter jersey anyway which I already have.

Sounds like Brevet and gilet is still the best autumn / spring combo from Rapha?

I'm really after a decent autumn / jersey but seemingly can't find what I want! A Gabba or Perfetto as it's now known doesn't really appeal to me, may need to revisit those Sportful ones.

  • There's a market for this. It's just not me. It's too thin for cold and, as you say, if you layer you may as well wear a winter one sans layer. I can't help but think it's been positioned as for "cool" weather to protect the winter jersey. I can't see why they couldn't have used the thin merino to back the windproof section but otherwise stick to the full merino of the Brevet long sleeve. For me Brevet and Gilet is still the choice. If only they did the LS and gilet bundle I'd go with that. But no, short sleeve and gilet still.

Someone on either this thread or your main one suggested they may bundle the LS and Gilet soon?

If so that would be what I'd go for.

  • I'm writing the review, subject to some cooler temp days, but there are some close ups here
