Alternative to Castelli Gabba

I've been trying to buy a Castelli Gabba for this winter as like the fact it's rainproof and good for a variety of weather / temperatures etc.
BUT and this is the big but there is no stock anywhere I've checked with several places and there won't be any till the other side of Xmas. Which seems crazy.

So what other jerseys people suggest for the winter that ticks all the boxes as well as the gabba does??

I find I'm always fairly hot and last year rose all winter wearing just my assos jacket and an under top so want something that breathes well like my assos jacket.

One of the Sportful Fiandre ones? (I don't own either, I was just looking for something similar to you)

I've had a gabba and some equivalents for a while. Alternatives -
    - Castelli Perfetto - better than the gabba IMHO, it breathes better, runs cooler and doesn't seem to sacrifice any water restistance though neither this nor the gabba are fully waterproof. I wore mine up a col in torrential rain last weekend and it kept me warm and reasonably dry throughout.
    - Parentti Mossa - fully waterproof and breathes very well. It runs a smidge warmer than the perfetto and is a great piece of kit. The fit on me isn't as good as the castelli but YMMV here.
    - Stolen Goat Orkan - I've got one arriving tomorrow, again fully water proof and gets rave reviews. I've not tried it yet so can't comment further but it's at a good price point
  • I prefer my stolen goat orkaan to the gabba. It is definitely more water proof.
  • Stock might be dwindling because there is no long sleeve Gabba now. It's called a Perfetto. The short sleeve continues to be called Gabba.

Saw the new Perfetto long sleeve in Evans on Sunday. Looks like it has a similar waistband to the Apha jersey, plus zipped chest vents. The gore material also extends all over the back, unlike the short-sleeved version. Looked good TBH, if expensive as they always are at RRP

Castelli Cafe mention "Later this year you will notice we are dropping the Gabba name on all but the original and the best Gabba Short sleeve race jersey. The long sleeve version the 'convertibile' and the fawesome vest will all be called Perfetto - Why Perfetto - well because they are perfect of course."

Edit: just seen what bender had said above (sounds bad that)
  • It's awfully confusing as the long and short sleeve Perfetto are not the same thing. Whereas the long and short sleeve Gabba very much were. There are definitely a few new design touches in the new Perfetto long sleeve though as noted.

The short sleeve perfetto is definitely designed for temperatures above 10C so it would require a decent baselayer under 5C.
The Parentini Mossa is an excellent piece of kit - I have the original Mossa which operated very well around 0 to 5C - the newer Mossa Jacket is warmer than my version.
The Castelli Alpha Jersey/Jacket is also a superb option - it is pretty water resistent.
The Lusso aqua repel will also fit the bill and is cheaper than the Gabba/Perfetto equivalent.

Is this the stolen goat jersey you are all talking about? Looks a great bit of kit and love the bright green for dull winter time.

Bugger that - anything over about 6 degrees and I boil in mine. Can't fault it though - does exactly what is says on the tin and looks as smart as carrots while doing it .....

  • Seems a bit of a minefield. Love my convertible Gabba, but am also wanting something waterproof that is good at slightly colder temps than the Gabba (for me that is below about 3-4 degrees).

Yeah that's the long sleeve version of the one I have.
  • I bought a long sleeve Gabba 2 from Evans 2 week ago for £115. Massively impressed with it so far. Still in stock.

You must run pretty hot, I'm good in mine at anything up to 16/17 degrees. Below 6-7 degrees and I'm looking at a gillet as well. It breathes well and doesn't have much insulation so it's good at keeping you warm if you're working, for a long slow ride I'd be in more layers.

The gabba onesie I also have, it's great for winter when you know you'll be in longs and long sleeves all day. It's become my go-to longs and also made me get a summer onesie, having the bib shorts and jersey integrated is surprisingly comfy

I've worn my Perfetto short sleeve in single figure temps with no problems and right into the early teens. I do wear a short sleeve mesh base layer which works well but anything that retained any moisture like a merino base layer might cause problems when its cooler.

I've just bought the Perfetto gilet which I'll use with the short sleeve to give me some extra insulation when it gets into low single figures.

    Rapha Shadow is good

But utterly insanely priced, ive a lot of Rapha stuff and really rate it but they've gone mad with shadow pricing
