Planet x stealth rim width clearance - how wide rims?

Hi,
I'm looking to upgrade my wheels on my tt bike (planet x stealth) but am a bit nervy about the current trend for wide rims and the clearance that the stealth has near the bb junction. How wide are the rims that people are riding on with their stealths? my current wheels are 20mm and I am interested in swiss side hedron at 23mm.

Comments

  • Surely give PlanetX a ring - most of them are cyclists.
  • I ride a stealth, I think you will be fine with 23 wide rim. I run a 25mm tyre on the back of mine with no clearance issues.
  • Would you need a wider rim on a TT bike?
I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles
  • Wider rims are faster when paired with the correct width tyre

Hi, I have in mind the swiss side hedrons (23mm width)
  • I have used (having checked with them before I did) Zipp 404's which are 25mm at the brake track. No problem. You'll have plenty of clearance at 23mm.

I should add that was with a 23mm tyre.

Just had a reply from them. They said 23mm is the widest that they would 'comfortably' recommend.

Really dont think a wider rim matters for the average amateur.

If you have had time in a wind tunnel - then maybe - but other than that....

For amateurs or tourists wider rims do matter, but not for aerodynamics.
Fast cornering at lower pressures, that's where they shine.
