Wanting to start a build. Crank and chainring question.

Wanting to start a full bike build but I had a question about some cranks.
I'm only wanting a single 34t or 36t chainring up front and maybe a 9 or 10 cassette at the back.
With this in mind about 2 years ago when riding BMX I bought a set of Profile racing cranks. They haven't been touched since.
What would be the pros and cons of setting up a hardtail MTB using BMX cranks and chainring up front?
They have a 19mm axle. Any help would be appreciated.

Bad idea.
To go 1x gearing sensibly you need a narrow wide chainring or you need a chain guide, you can't get NW BMX rings as far as I can find - also what chainline would it give? Just get a reasonable MTB chainset.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
That makes sense... Didn't really think about the chainline.
What would you suggest would be a good chainset for 1x? Probably max £150?0 -
Shimano SLX are £72 on CRC:

You'd just need a suitable chainring for it. I use a superstar IO ring on my cx bike without any problems, they're about £20.0
