A possible summer upgrade, are the Zipp 30 Clinchers any good - been offered a set for £350?

You can buy lighter for cheaper.

Post some examples, I could be in the market soon.

    Wiggle's Cosine wheels, 1485g for £225
Even RS81 C35s are lighter for less

    I'm sure there's more...

I think you might be confused by the Zipps being talked about, they are an alu clincher at 1655g, lighter and cheaper is easy.

Thanks for this, I'd not seen those Cosine wheels. A few negative reviews but mostly people seem really happy with them. I think the Krysiums that came on my Canyon are looking a bit worn, these would probably be a good replacement I think.

edit: I was looking at the alloy not the carbon ones too, £225 seems very good value.

Take a look at the wheels from The Cycle Clinic.

  • Hand builds are always a nice option.

I've got Cero AR30's, 1400g for £380, they came with tyres when I bought them. 10/10 in cycling weekly, come with spare spokes too. As far as I can tell they are just off the shelf parts assembled under their own brand name (Kinlin rim, XR300 maybe?), CX-Ray spokes, not sure about the hubs, bitex or chosen? similar to the lightweight novatec ones. You could build them yourself for less or have hand builds spec'd virtually the same. I like them though, very light, very stiff, although the rim is narrow contrary to current trends for wide rims.

Hunt make some very well review, very well spec'd wheels at competitive prices.

If I was buying again for that kind of money I'd probably have hand builds made, all be it to a very similar spec to the AR30's I have now.

    TL:DR
My answer didn't really answer your question, just gives you more options.

Start of winter *can* be a good time to buy wheels if buying an off the shelf pair but waiting for January sales may also be worth while. Doesn't really apply so much to hand builds.
  • The 30 rim seems a step down from the Zipp 101. Yet, they have discontinued the latter, rather than the former
