......is it possible to avoid cycle paths on the round routing feature?
As it's a cycle computer, the mapping goes out of its way to throw you on any possible sh*t cycle path, even if said path is just a few meters long.
Its so damn annoying - i just want to stay on the road ffs

i think there is an option in the settings under the profiles bit and then in navigation preferences.www.conjunctivitis.com - a site for sore eyes0

On the 820 you can tell it to route as if you are a car or a motorbike. You can also say that you don't want to go down anything that is not road bike suitable, but that relies on openstreetmaps being updated to say which bike paths are which, and generally they aren't.0

At least you have the ability to contribute in your local area to correct OSM (or as I did in my local area map all the roads and tracks in the whole town over a (very long) weekend)0

I was having the same issues. "Oh, it's part of a National Cycle Route, that should be ok.....". And then I learned my lesson. As it turned out Google street view stopped about 50 yards before the craters started.
From the Home screen:
Settings->Activity Profiles->(select a profile)->Navigation->Routing->Routing Mode->Road Cycling.
Also:
Settings->Activity Profiles->(select a profile)->Navigation->Routing->Avoidance Setup->Unpaved Roads.0 -
Aha unpaved roads, that could be the answer

I wouldn't rely on it. I have gone and updated OSM for the towpaths near me that it has tried to take me along even with this set.0
