Hi all,

I have an old Falcon machine which took an unexpected dive off of the back of the car at the weekend (with the rack still attached). The rear mech took the impact along with the handlebar and cheap plastic platform pedal. The bar and pedal should be easily replaced, but i've never dealt with the mech before. Are these still available, i can't see any with a brief google search. I'd like to fix it up as it's what i ride alongside the kids

I thought only 6 speed onwards was indexed, but seeing as all mechs from 6 to 9 speed have the same pull ratio, there's a good chance so will 5. You are unlikely to find anything in 5 anyway - I haven't even seen one for decades.

Its the exact same part used for 5 speed.

There are two models, the lesser one (most common) is mounted direct to the frame in the inclined dropout, if its that one you have you'll need another direct to frame mount, if you have the version with the frame mount separate you can unbolt the rear dérailleur section and use any 5-9 speed.
    If its one piece.
