If you go for a cardboard style box, get your crayons out. http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/lat ... box-285180Trainer Road Blog: https://hitthesweetspot.home.blog/

Hiring is easiest if you aren't a regular user of travel bags/boxes. I use a soft case with loads of padding and bubble-wrap. Not had anything damaged over years of flights.....YETFFS! Harden up and grow a pair0 -
5 trips this year, 3 with bike bag. Crushed seat stay on last trip. Never again.
Think a pro rider posted on twitter last couple of days both seat stays crushed on his bike in a bag.
As long as you accept the risk.I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles0 -
Whatever you get, make sure it has four wheels, so you dont have to drag it anywhere
I've used SciconAero bag for a few trips and no real problem. Girl has a Scicon hard bag and had her derail bent, so you take your chances0 -
If using a soft bag, you MUST take the derailleur off and cable tie it to the chainstay/seatstay.0

Anyone thinking padding will protect a bike from structural damage is deluded.
The OP is asking for hard case suggestions. Wise man. Can't help I'm afraid. The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.Veronese68 wrote:PB is the most sensible person on here.0 -

I use a Bike Box Alan. If you love your bike, get one. Very protective, lots of straps and padding inside, crush proof, four wheels for easy mobility and comes in a range of colours!
Mine took a beating from England to Australia, but my bike arrived still perfect!0 -
Pretty sure that I removed my rear mech for the BBA.
I've flown plenty of times with a soft bag too. If you pack the bike up properly it's pretty safe but you do need a lot of foam and tape to do the job.
Anyone leaving a mech on is asking for trouble.0 -
Yep I removed my rear mech and wrapped it safe when using the BBA. I don't think it's necessary if you click it all the way inwards, but for the extra few minutes of packing time it's worth the added insurance/safety to do so.0
