  • Just upgraded my Felt F75 to a carbon bike. I wanted something a little more upright (which I understand the Felt Z range is compared to the F series) as I have terrible flexibility in my back and hamstrings. I bought a Cube Attain GTC Race. Carbon frame, full Ultegra (bar the brakes), Mavic Aksium Elite rims and hubs. Lovely ride, so much smoother and quicker than the Felt. It's a £1,500 bike but if you go for the 2016 (seems to be plenty around) you can get it for a nudge over your £1,000 budget.

    Got mine here http://www.rutlandcycling.com/369453/pr ... -bike.aspx
  • This supersix seems like a good deal, but it's 105 and a touch over 1k. To be fair the difference between 5800 and 6800 is very slim, both very good groupsets! http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/m7b0s6p662 ... O-105-2016
  • I have a Dolan L'Etape and I'm very happy with it. However its geometry seems a bit marmite, before I bought it I asked on here & a fair few people really don't get on with the frame. I decided to go for it because the geometry was very close to that of the bike I was replacing & it worked out well, but I'd say try before you buy, if you can.

I also wasn't too impressed with the build & setup - it took me a fair amount of fiddling & fettling to get the gears running sweetly and there were various other niggles - chain too long, brakes not properly aligned, headset loose, rear mech cable fouling inside the frame - and I still need to replace the rear brake cable, which is cut a bit too short. None of these things were too much of a bother for me but if you're not confident with a pipe wrench & a lump hammer it could be a problem.

On the plus side the bike is ridiculous VFM and Dolan do regular 10% off deals - which I certainly found an incentive.

+1 for Ribble. go for 105 5800 and use the difference on better rims. Ultegra 6800 very good but the difference between the two is slim and save £130
  • That supersix is a proper nice bike for the money.

I'd probably go Ribble of the other options, nice thing is you can change the spec on the bike builder.

http://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/ribble-r8 ... #pid=34597 That's a redonkulous bike for the money. Cracking stiff carbon frame, bulletproof 11 speed 105 gears, half decent finishing kit and solid - if slightly basic - shimano training hoops. All for under a grand.

You'd have to clinically insane to buy anything other than this http://www.startfitness.co.uk/cannondal ... stbbq.html
  • You could look at some of the chinese open mould frames?
  • I've rot a Ribble R872 and I really like it. For the money they're impossible to beat, plus with the 'bike builder' you can spec it yourself to fit your budget. They do many carbon models depending of what geometry / ride style you want. Worth a look.
