Hi,

I just got a replacement for my broken carbon fork. Finally got a new one today, but since I've never installed a front fork before, I am a bit lost.

My main questions is, does this fork have an integrated crown race, or do I need to get one installed?

Thanks for any help!

  • You need to install one - I suggest looking at the specs of the original fork (assuming you're replacing like with like) to make sure you get the right one.

You'll also need an installation tool (such as http://www.wiggle.co.uk/lifeline-crown- ... 60510137uk) or talk nicely to your LBS.

A crown race can be fitted with a hammer and screwdriver, just tap it down working round.

  • Alright, I wasn't sure if the metal at the bottom was a crown race or not. I guess I will take it in to the LBS just to make sure I get the right size, and gently install it myself.

The bike has been in my living room for 2 months (pretty much the entire summer) and I am really craving to get back on the bike as soon as possible.

Crown races are specific to the headset, so a fork can never come with one fitted.

You may end up paying for a complete headset for them to get the crown race from.
