Continental OE Tyres

Just curious but I've changed the tyres (conti 4000SII) on my Canyon SL that it came with and I was surprised to see that they were made in Germany but are a wire bead. Anybody know if these would be the chilli compound? They have a tendency in the dry to squeal a bit with lateral forces going into bends regardless of tyre pressure ( I have conti 4000s on another set of wheels and they don't do this).

that seems unusual, but if they are 4000s, they should be the same compound.

http://www.conti-tyres.co.uk/road-and-t ... -4000-s-ii seems to indicate they might not be what you think they are perhaps. 4000s's are not supposed to be wire bead.
  • Yes i thought it was bizarre. Like you say they don't appear to supply wire bead versions. Looks like Canyon have a special deal going on. Bit misleading if you think your getting a decent set of tyres in the deal but they are just a bit of badge engineering especially as they are all supposed to be chillis. Not that concerned because tyres are a personal thing and most supplied tyres with a new bike aren't great but seems a bit cheeky.

Hmmmm. Just checked the website for the Canyon I've just taken delivery of.

It specifically mentions Black Chilli compound BUT does not mention folding or wired. I know the tyres on my wife's Endurance were folding as I've changed the tubes a few times but with only 60 miles or so on this new bike I've not had the tyres off yet.
  • I've done about 500miles on these with no problems other than the squealing. Maybe its my poor bike handling! I guess conti do a special batch just for canyon to save money? They are now in the shed as spares and have put some Veloflex masters on.
