Is this headset http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/fsa-orbit-is-2-cc-headset/rp-prod6183 compatible with Kinesis T2 V3 frame and Kinesis DC07 fork?

Cheers,
D

Thats not too bad a price for essentially 2 replacement bearings... a fit? I doubt you'll get a definitive answer even from Kinesis... if the bearings are easily removed, measure them with a vernier.. if they are a tight press fit, then the bike might have to be off the road until you get new bearings.

Well just out of curiosity I dropped out the fork and fished out the FSA bearings from my Racelight Tk for the first time in 9 years. Still corrosion free and silky smooth (proper mudguards, innit). They appear to easily lift / drop out, no tools required. Because it's not a tapered job, upper and lower bearings are the same so I swapped them round to even out any wear, and refitted them with loads of grease.

Anyway, that headset looks to be the right one according to the info on their website:

    http://www.kinesisbikes.co.uk/Catalogue ... ight/T2-v3

    Integrated, 1 1/8", 36 / 45 deg, 45mm OD headtube
  • Headset fitted perfectly.

Does anyone have recommendations for brakeset on a budget for the T2?

I bought a set of Miche long drop (57mm) callipers for the frame, but the rear is really close to the edge of the rim - almost touching the tyre with the brake block at the lowest point, so much so, that I would be nervous about the blocks touching the tyre, and/or heat build up.

Rims are H Plus Son Archetypes on Miche Primato hubs.

    Anyone got any thoughts??

    Cheers,

  • You could just run a suitably sized round file through the bottom of the brake pad mounting hole and lower the drop by 1mm or a little more.

I have these on my T2 and the rears run right at the bottom of the pad drop but they clear the tire fine

    or the more fancy

These have a claimed longer drop but I have no experience of them

I have the Shimano BR450s on my Racelight Tk; they seem to clear the tyre satisfactorily

Eh? No, definitely not - buy a new frame and need to adjust it so drastically - I think not!!
EDIT: Sorry re-read this and realised you are advising me to take a file to the hole in the brake arm - not the frame!! Apologies!!

I presume you are referring to the Tektro's on the Planet X website having the longer drop?

  • apologies for resurrecting an old thread, I'm trying to find a low stack headset for the Kinesis racelite T2 V3 frame

The one it ships with is this:
    http://outlet.upgradebikes.co.uk/Outlet ... 45-Headset

I've tried searching, but I've struggled to find something with a low stack height bearing cap.

Indeed I kind of just want the bearing cap - the rest of the headset is fine.

I've managed to order two incompatible headsets now and neither Kinesis, nor FSA have been very helpful...

    Any advice greatly received!
