Weird discolours on CF frame
Hi,
I bought an used BMC Granfondo 01 (CF frame).
The frame is solid no chips no cracks.. but its full of weird discolours.. They look like there would be stickers in the places where discolours appeared.. The paint is solid in the places of discolours..
The owner told me he bought it with the stains being there already and he assured me that he had no issus with the frame.
Any ideas what that could be..?

Looks like the mould lines from when the frame was built are showing through, and different weaves of carbon have a different finish.WyndyMilla Massive Attack | Rourke 953 | Condor Italia 531 Pro | Boardman CX Pro | DT Swiss RR440 Tubeless Wheels

It's just a normal unpainted CF finish.0

That's the final layers of raw unidirectional carbon that's been layered in sections and in diferent directions. The discolouration is just the characteristics of the carbon. That's why the light bounces of differently at different angles. The
The carbon has then been and covered in a clear matt lacquer to protect it. 100% fine and normal.
Leaving the carbon frame bare like that and then using minimalist graphics and paint will save weight of around 100-300 grams off the overall frame weight. So it's been done for weight saving and performance reasons.0 -
