SRAM RED Short cage 10sp rear derailleur limit screw not long enough

Hi I am running a rear wheel with an aerojacket/raltech cover and the rear derailleur cant go into the largest (easiest) high gears without clipping. However with the limit screw fully in, its not enough....the limit isn't applied. I looked at the screw from a spare SRAM force rear and its even shorter. Ideas? I wouldn't know how to get hold of a longer one

Can you screw it in from the other side? Might be fiddly.

  • ok I'll give that a try and also I'll see if I have a randomly long screw around the house (unlikely). Padding out the limit stop occurred to me but its a tiny area.

    Is the hanger straight/aligned properly??

i think the op is trying to compensate for the 'fat' wheel by stopping the rd being able to move the full normal range, so longer screw is probably the solution

op - if you don't need the full length of B screw, try swapping it around with the limit screw as the B screw is much longer, they look like they may be the same thread, perhaps m4?
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny

No, I get that, I'm just thinking that if there isn't enough range on the limit stops a slight tweak to the hanger might help - assuming it is straight in the first place. Either that or a shim under the mech mounting bolt?

Out of curiosity, if you manually put the chain onto the largest sprocket, is there enough clearance anyway? If so, is releasing some of the cable tension to make the limit screw have some effect a possibility?
I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.

ok its looks a bit odd but swapping the really long B-adjust screw was swappable and did the job. actually I put one limit screw in the b-adjust and it seems to be just just long enough.

    thanks all.
