Can I get rid of lil. scratches by polishing my bike?

Hello guys!
Question is simple: Can I get rid of little scratches by polishing my bike? I watched a video of a triathlete and he said "You can remove little scratches by polishing." but I still have some questions on my mind. Also my bike is carbon-fibre so is there a problem with polishing my bike? :?:

    If it's a painted finish, yeah, you can polish things out, or t-cut/g3 then polish.

    If it has a matt or bare finish don't do it.
