online resources about how bikes work etc

Hi all,
I am a complete newbie to cycling seriously- I am getting a road bike through c2w and will be using it to commute and weekend rides and possibly a triathlon rolled in.

I am looking for resources that explain how the gears work? etc and explain to me in lay mans terms the parts of a bike. Ive read the forums as much as I can but unfortunately a lot of the info does not make much sense as the words I do not understand.
