Hi guys,
I have a 2002 Scott Voltage MX5, a basic bike with basic Shimano Tourney eqiupment. Now, I would like to upgrade rear derailleur with the one from Alivio or Deore group set. I was wondering if any 7-gear derailleur would fit to my bike and are there any other parts that would have to be replaced, such as rear shifter.
I would appreciate any help,
Cheers

Any Shimano 7,8 or 9 speed will work with your shifter.I don't do smileys.

I can get as good as new Shimano Alivio M410 (originally goes with rapid fire shifter) and my shifter is Tourney SL-RS40 (twist grip). Do you think they are compatible?0

Me again
I thought I could reuse this topic for a quick question. Could someone tell me what is this object marked in red? What it does, what it's called etc? I have never seer something similar on other derailleurs.

It's just a rubbery cover that stops it clacking on the chain stay. In theory. Although I can't actually see much in the picture.I don't do smileys.

As Cooldad says, just a rubber cover to dull down any noise from banging against the chain stay. If you wish you can just undo, remove and store it in a drawer with other useless things0

Well, that settles it. Nothing else to say.
Thanks guys.0
