Replacing a middle aged xenon rear mech with elderly super record

I am just sorting out some of the stuff I have in the outhouse.....
In the red corner is a bTwin with a Campag Xenon in the Blue corner is an older Gitane Campag super record through-out.
I have been using a hybrid with rack, mudguards the whole lot, so I thought I use one of the more race(ish) oriented bikes.
The Gitane is a super bike but I'm sure it has grown!!!!
I hasten to add I'm no spring chicken...I've shrunk! but the bTwin is a smaller frame.
Rather than leave the Record rear mech. sitting on the Gitane I thought of swopping it with the Xenon.
I have already swopped the wheels so the rear block has a less tooth differential, and I like the idea of having a shorter cage.
Don't really want to bring the brake/gear levers over as well..... too much mucking about for small gains.
Is there anything that I may have missed will make this a No Go?
I know I will have to take some links out of the chain. Quite happy to spend time adjusting end stops and what have you.
Cheers

You want to replace the xenon (indexed shifting) with the 1980s super record designed for friction shifting (downtube shifters) is this correct?left the forum March 20230

The Super Record is indexed as well...... Your question makes me question how old the Gitane is now, for the life can't remember precisely.
My main reason for changing or at least contemplate changing is the SRecord has a much shorter change tensioning system and cuts out a lot of chain slap and makes for slicker changes(maybe)0 -
Substitute chain for change in the last sentence of last post!0

If it is indexed, I don't think you have Super Record. The old Super Record was discontinued in 1987 ( black and silver finish) around the time when Campag introduced indexed gears operated by its Syncro downtube levers. Ergo levers with indexed gear changes and braking combined were introduced in 1992. Super Record re-appeared in 2008 as (very expensive) indexed 11-speed with lots of carbon and titanium. Xenon can be nine or 10 indexed.
From what I understand from your previous posts, your Gitane is early 90s. Do you maybe have eight-speed indexed Ergo levers? Perhaps Record (all silver finish rear derailleur)?
As for compatibility, Campag altered the RD shift ratio in 2001. As far as I can gather, pre-2001 eight and nine speed should work with each other. But pre-2001 rear derailleurs will apparently not work with post 2001 nine or 10 speed levers. Of course, you could always try it for yourself. But I doubt whether you would get improved shifting.0 -

Why not buy yourself a nice new frame, that fits, and move the Record stuff across?0
