So Genesis have released a bunch of new stuff for "next" year. The website ( www.genesisbikes.co.uk ) appears to have crashed tonight but looks like there's a few pretty new shiny things!

  • There is some lovely stuff there. But the prices. That 2k cx is gorgeous but considerably more than me super x though at sale prices.

  • Vapour is back, used to be a cheap alloy frame, now it's carbon... price point is OK, more baffled by the equilibrium disc, which looks nice, but 2 grand for a Reynolds 725 bike... really?

This time last year I couldn't find a hydraulic braked 105 carbon bike for under 2000....don't see many more around now either

  • Has any person ever bought a Ti Croix de Fer at RRP? I suspect the answer must be yes as they keep making them

They have some in the hipster coffee/bike shop near me. In the flesh they are jaw droppingly pretty

  • Gorgeous. I'd have one. At £1500 or so. Indeed I think I once saw one at that price. But, for 3k, you'd buy a Kinesis surely? Or some artisan brand.

Anyhow, another whinge, Samox chainset on the Vapour. What in the world is a Samox chainset? Surely they could have sourced something prettier for a few pence more?

  • The tour de fer is the first bike I have seen fitted with a Tiagra Triple groupset. That is a positive I think. if they did a alu der fer with tiagra triple, spyre brakes and a decent carbon fork it would be interesting. But they'd price it at a grand so no one would buy them until the sales.....
  • if they did a alu der fer ....

    That would be confusing...

Not sure Kinsis has any more cache than Genesis.

Ti is Ti though, its expensive.

I cant bring myself to get rid of my Ti Soda though, even though i really never ride it any more.

  • It is. But I can't see what a Croix has over a Pickenflick.

Well ok, I dont want to come over all Mike Brew but i dont think comparing genesis with PX is really comparing apples with apples

  • I think, in the past, some were Van Nic. Recently they had some input from someone or other, can't recall who. I do think that the Pick is pretty good by all accounts.

    Not Ti but for three grand I'd rather have one of these(in blue and white though);

To say I'm smitten would be an understatement

I'd probably just get the frames though and put a 1X11 drivetrain on with some Hunt wheels or hand-builts and Deda/Fabric kit.
    Ridley Helium SL (Dura-Ace/Wheelsmith Aero-dimpled 45 wheels)

Light Blue Robinson(105 +lots of Hope)

Planet X XLS 1X10(105/XTR/Miche/TRP Spyre SLC brakes

    Graham Weigh 105/Ultegra
  • Quite. There's so much at that price and half the fun is building. Oh, and Ritchey have a new Gravel thing as well.

Everyone has a new gravel thing. They are making gravel space hoppers now. My gym has a gravel cross trainer.

For cross racing steel is unacceptable... you are carrying around two pounds extra for no gain whatsoever... the Vapour is a cross racing bike, their do it all off roader is the croix de fer.

For non competitive off road riding, then I agree with you steel is perfect and will give you less grief over its lifetime

  • Datum Frameset £1500 or full bike for £1900. No brainer to strip down the full bike and sell on the components? I have a Di2 Hydro groupset to fit...

It was £999 last year. I've oft said that their built up bikes offer poor value compared to their frames. Perhaps it's a reaction to selling too many frames?

I was looking for something similar except Aluminium.

Whilst having a browse last night I came across a lot of 2016 Cube's reduced. These two meet your spec:

I would look elsewhere. Giant TCX and Cannondale Caadx are considerably better value... not to speak about thePlanet X... I like the Spec Crux, especially the nice colour combinations

I very very nearly bought a Crux, it was out of stock in my size by the new year though...

Criticising Genesis for lack of value then suggesting Spesh is a tad like criticising Rapha for being expensive then suggesting Castelli though

The Crux E5 is alloy, it doesn't cost the earth
