So i have to replace my bottom bracket on my boardman (fsa shite) and planning to go 1x in the process.. I've found the zee crankset and bottom bracket for £74 all in on wiggle (36t ring included), but see it listed as an AM/DH crankset.. i know (or think i do) there's no real contraints on using cranks for whatever purpose, but since i assume the added strength also adds a little weight, are there any lighter sets around that are worth getting in the same price range?

I'd rather save 20 quid than 20 grams, so will just go for something usable and cheap as long as the quality is good.. which the Zee should fit into at that price.

    SLX makes more sense.

What bottom bracket shell standard is the frame?
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
  • is 68/73 (or something like those numbers) the right answer? lol. if not you may have to clue me in on how to provide you with the right one.

No th shell will be 68mm or 73mm or may be a press fit standard of which there are several.

  • ah, okay... pretty sure it's a 68mm.. can i just measure that bit of the frame?

    definitely screws in and out.
  • Zee crank arms are the same as Deore. Save another £15 and get Deore.
  • link to deore with a bottom bracket for £59?

was more than that on wiggle when i checked the two against each other.

    £55 here:

But a triple. You could just use the middle ring with a guide, or fit a N/W, depending on your preferences.
  • Having suddenly realised my rather schoolboy error i can't use the zee on my current 9 speed anyway.. so looks like the deore and buy a nw is the way forwards.
(Dont think the other half is going to approve going 10 speed at the same time :/)
    Thanks folks :)

Why can't you use Zee on your nine speed? 9 and 10 speed cranks are the same, minor differences in the chainring but work just fine anyway.

That said I'd still use Deore or the slightly lighter SLX.
