Ribble seem to have dropped the ball on this one...

Although I've bought stuff fine from Ribble in the past, they're completely let me down on this order.

A Di2 9070 shifting set ordered middle of last week should have arrived by now. Like a numpty I was just waiting for the postman's knock. But checking the 'status' it seems the products haven't even been 'picked' yet, let alone dispatched. And yet, Ribble's site shows these products as being 'In Stock' today.

This 'place an order, then we'll see if we can get it in' attitude does my head in. I'm now in the sh*t before an upcoming flight.

They don't even answer the phone, and promise to reply to email in.....48 hours. Great.

Anyway, live and learn....

Could you get another store to price match and either click & collect or next day delivery?

Had exactly the same issue. Was calling them non-stop until they finally picked up the phone and explained to me that they had a system issue and my order was not processed properly. Dispatched it the same day and got it after two days. Just keep on harassing them on the phone, they will answer eventually.

Apparently they were recently bought out by some kind of investment fund.

I've gone right off Ribble after they didn't refund return postage cost after receiving something which was different colour to that on website. And I actually saved them £ but returning cheaper, but they still didn't play ball. Thankfully, there are other stores who deal with customers better.

Having initially bought the ones suggested as correct from the Ribble website (which didn't appear to fit), a mate of mine is having real problems trying to ascertain the correct headset bearings for his Ribble Winter/Audax. I would have thought they would instantly know the ones required on their self proclaimed "best seller" but apparently not . . .

I am normally a supporter of Ribble but I had a similar issue with my Gran Fondo. The emailed telling me to either dismantle and check myself or send a photo. Apparently they switched to a tapered system sometime ago and they couldn't tell from my account which I had.

I did dismantle and check and then ordered from a bearings specialist website rather than Ribble.

The Ribble winter/audax takes a 1 1/8" 36x45 bearing. I've put quite a few in, Dolan Preffisio is the same.

DUFF INFO I'm afraid. The Ribble Audax takes a CAMPAG FIT HEADSET ,same as this one:

The one you have linked to is a IS2/ Cane Creek type one. Not suitable for that frame .

FWIW I have stopped buying from Ribble these days for the following reasons:
    1) No longer any cheaper than anyone else, apart from the odd item or promotion.
    2) Returns not as easy as other retailers offering free Collect Plus returns.
    3) Customer service still dodgy on occasions.
    4) Their new website is pants. When they made the switchover from the old website it was painful and is still full of errors now- eg their sizing recommendations for the Ribble Winter frame went completely awry - they are recommending a 56 for people 6' tall. That is based on their former method of sizing their winter frame -they used to size by stating the measurement from centre of B-B to CENTRE of top tube. But they changed their sizing method by their own choice a few years ago to centre of BB to TOP of top tube so a 56 'became' a 60 overnight. I know this as I bought a 56 from them in 2008 and a 60 in 2013 and they are exactly the same size. They obviously forgot about that. There must be a few people who have bought frames too small for them since then.
Wouldn't mind but the geometry chart makes it clear what the size of each frame is,yet they clearly haven't checked it against their 'rider height' recommendation chart, which only applied or made sense under their older frame sizing method.
Their chart puts a 6' tall rider on a 54 or 56 frame with an 11 or 13cm head tube- clearly not correct at all.

So it seems we can now add 'Lying to their customers' as a further complaint.

When I finally got through on the phone (7th attempt, 5 min hold), I was told that my order had been picked and packed and would 'hopefully' be dispatched today.

And yet at COB today, the online status is still 'In Picking'.

  • So the order was finally dispatched on Thursday, a full week after placing the order for 'In Stock' items. But it seems that had I not insisted by phone, it probably still wouldn't be sent now.....

Did you pay for next day delivery or go for the free delivery option?

Free delivery, but it's for France, so that's the best they have. Probably won't get it till Wednesday.

From my limited experience there are some good bike shops in France why not order from there, the problem with the free option is that it goes to the back of the queue, I've found that recently with Wiggle, free previously meant it came after 2/3 days now it's more like 5.

I think over the next couple of years free delivery will more or less come to an end as most etailers have driven prices so low there's no profit once free delivery is taken into account.

Nowadays if you want something quick you have to pay or collect.
  • I ordered a Di2 shift kit. The closest French price was a good 200 quid more, especially now the pound is weaker.
If a company takes more than 2 days to expedite, free or not, I won't use them again.

Still waiting on an order of stock items which I placed a week ago. I remember it was not so long ago that the stuff seemed to arrive virtually the next day.

They appear to be losing the plot!

mm junior was moaning about Internet stuff ordered on Thursday not turning up today.
Went down the 'when I were a lad....' route .... posting forms with postal orders and allowing 14 days (if you were lucky).

    Really?

I'd be interested in your explanation of *why* Ribble can sell it for 200 quid less than your local, or any other shop, but magically offer better service and delivery for every item?

You get what you pay for. To paraphrase an old saying... "Fast, cheap, good service. Pick any two".

I've bought loads from Ribble in the past, although not for some time now, and they were generally fine. In terms of delivery and efficiency, my ranking would be:
    - Merlin
    - CRC
    - Wiggle
    - Ribble
    - Planet X

    Strange thing to say.

Everyone knows internet retailers are cheaper. 95% of the time, my orders with Wiggle, CRC, Merlin and Ribble (plus a French one probikeshop.fr) have all gone through fine. Delivery takes 3 - 4 days to France (from order date to arrival).

This time, Ribble are in a mess, for a variety of reasons it would seem. I wouldn't order something important from them again unless I had a manager's verbal guarantee of fast expedition.

I can strip and build any bike quite happily, so I don't need an LBS to do it for me. I try and support one or two LBS's when I can, but frankly, they don't make it easy......
  • I used to use Ribble all the time. But ever since they changed their website, I find myself using someone else.
  • Same experience for me recently, terrible service, still waiting after ordering for 2 weeks, apparently dispatched but no trace of parcel as of yet...
