Hi. I'm looking for a new road frame, budget is up to £600, I'm not biased towards carbon or aluminium, nothing too racy (comfortable for 50 mile plus rides) and should see fairly light.
I've done a fair bit of research so far and like the look of the Planet X RT80 and also the Kinesis Aithien (may be too racy).
What would you reccomend??

Caad 10 or 12 preferably disc version
  • Try Bowmans. Good young British company. I live in South London and a lot of the guys are buying these for long distance - Pilgrims or crit racing - Palace. Loads of great feedback on them from everyone.

Guys in my club just did the trans-continental on Pilgrims.

I am having to buy a CAAD12, which is great. But if my insurance company allowed me I'd buy the Bowman, Also you could check the Planet X London Road thread.
  • This spring I bought a Dolan L'etape frame. Very nicely made and finished, very pleased with the bike I built up.

Stretch the budget a bit and get one of these...

Just a little over your budget but it's a really excellent frame, I had one of these before my Scott Foil HMX and it was almost as good. Really stiff, but comfortable too with the stock seatpost.

How about a Giant TCR advanced. You can get the complete TCR advanced 3 bike with Tiagra for £839 from several places now. Strip it down and sell the parts to leave you a frame costing around £600. Has the advantage that BB and headset already fitted too. With planet X you normally need to buy these as extra and then fit.

Great idea, I'll certainly look into it.

How about the PX Maratona frameset.

Similar I woud guess to the RT80 but a bit less anonymous. Benefits from standard BSA threaded BB so no creaking woes further down the line.
