First road bike purchase advice....

Hello all, looking at getting a new road bike and thought it worthwhile to hopefully get some advice from those who know more than I do! 8)
Am looking at bikes in the 1,000 to 1,500 price zone and will be using for long weekend rides and the odd triathlon, so a decent all rounder preferable.
Am I better off focusing on the frameset than the bells and whistles on it?
