YT Sizing Advice

Hi bike gurus,
Been pouring over bike reviews and specs for the last few weeks (months?) and YT Jeffsy (29er) is current favourite - All kicked off from the peaslake trek demo day where large Trek fuel ex 9 felt inspiring, very quick up hills and great on the down (including yoghurt pots, Barry KB and steep drop off from lookout). Med follow on trek (not fuel ex) felt less good (more cramped, harder uphill)
Jeffsy is better spec for the price but mail order only so cant try easily: https://www.yt-industries.com/en/detail ... tegory/509
At 178cm high / 83 cm inside leg I am in between med and large according to YT sizing chart
Online advice seems to indicate larger is better for climbing, smaller is better for moving around - its the climbing I need all the help with and what inspired me about the trek fuel ex 9 large and that I really do need a new bike.
Main concern with the Jeffsy large is the combined seatpost + 150mm dropper but YT reply says this is 87cm at minimum post position (fully extended) which is a tad lower than both mine and James' bikes are currently set up for me and comfortable (before I measured for this comparison)
Comparing geometries with current Orange crush (which feels a bit small and difficult to climb) shows the following:
height 178 cm
inside leg 83 cm
belly button to chin (looking ahead) 55 cm Standing “attack position” for downhill, belly button = centre of gravity over BB on flat, chin over headtube
crush top of seat to pedal top 93 cm
James road bike adjusted to me: top of seat to top of pedal 91 cm
YT e-mail reply: top of seat to centre of pedal (L) 87 cm

I would be on a large rather than medium. More because of showing a lot of seat post on the medium rather than the shorter reach. I'd just use a 125mm dropper on the large and look to use a 35mm stem to bring the bars back to a good position if required.Bird Aeris : Trek Remedy 9.9 29er : Trek Procaliber 9.8 SL0

I am 185 and got an xl jeffsy, you should be fine on a L I believe, if it feels a bit long, which I doubt, you can always use a shorter stem
Never measured my inseam but have the dropper collar some 30-35 mm up from the top of seat tube
Brilliant bike although a touch on the heavy side but pedals great, an issue with the rear shock today will give me the chance to test a direct sales company their warranty, will let you know“I am a humanist, which means, in part, that I have tried to behave decently without expectations of rewards or punishments after I am dead.”

If you're not sure then mail order isn't a good idea.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350

basicaly if you know what fits you go mail order, or get a crappy spec bike for the money from a shop, and again fitment is not guarrantied“I am a humanist, which means, in part, that I have tried to behave decently without expectations of rewards or punishments after I am dead.”

Doesn't matter how good the spec is if it's not the right size.
You can get equally good value from shops, especially at this time of year if you shop around. Most good shops will either have demo bikes or at least give decent sizing advice. Just don't take advice from a salesmen who's a roadie and don't buy from shops with loads of road bikes and a couple mountain bikes.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

I'm bound to agree“I am a humanist, which means, in part, that I have tried to behave decently without expectations of rewards or punishments after I am dead.”
