KS Lev installation

Hi all

I've a KS Lev dropper post and am wondering what the purpose of the barbed ferrule is at the end of the cable where it meets the post. I need to replace the one on my cable but I can't work out entirely why it can't be a standard ferrule on the end of the cable considering it doesn't seem to impact the workings of the spring.

Any advice would be hugely appreciated as finding a replacement may prove tricky.
