Dura Ace cassette went 'POP'!

Hi.......I've used d/ace 9000 equipment since it was realeased a few years back.....mainly wheels, cassettes. However, yesterday my cassette spider broke into 2..........ride abandoned. :-(
I had heard of 'issues' with the cassette but hadn't had any probe personally until now. A few days before the thing broke I did have the chain begin to 'skip' on 2 of the middle sprockets whilst under load. I tried all sorts i.e. checking for chain stretch, stiff link, gear cable tension but to no avail. The chain and cassette were only installed from new on the bike in April this year and have led a charmed life (due to my ongoing injury).
Anyhow........the cassette snapped yesterday so RIP to that. Luckily I was pulling away from traffic lights so it was not a high speed or out of the saddle uphill break....... which could have been nasty.
Can I ask Madison for some type of 'comment'? (as Shimano distributors for there UK)? I've dealt with Madison before and it was a painful experience.
Are Sram cassettes any good i.e. the Sram Red to use with Shimano gearing? I reckon there doesn't appear to be any compatibility issues.
Thanks, Johnny

How old is the cassette? Should be able to warranty that.
I recently had the rivets on my DA cassette pop out and had to warranty the cassette, painless process. New one from Madison in <1 week.Follow me on Twitter - http://twitter.com/scalesjason - All posts are strictly my personal view.0 -
as mentioned, the cassette was put onto wheel in April 2016, maybe bought it in autumn/winter 2015, can't remember tbh.
I'm away overseas for 2 weeks from tomorrow so will perhaps talk to Madison when I'm back.
Thanks for the reply.

First port of call for warranty is the retailer. But fundamentally, try to get your money back, buy and fit an Ultegra cassette and spend the cash you saved on something else. The new DA cassettes are a weak point in the system.0

I am running SRAM 11 speed cassette with manual DA. At first it was not particularly smooth and quite noisy so was advised to change to 11 speed SRAM chain as well which did cure these issues, On reflection might have been better to go with Ultegra 11sp and save a lot of money.
Benefit of hindsight and all that, but at least SRAM should last a while0 -
I use force cassettes with Dura ace, as they have a 16tooth that I often use. they last a fair while and are reliable though not especially cheap. pretty light as well.0

FFS! Harden up and grow a pair0

Never had this problem with Campagnolo cassettes ....... just problems with my bank manager :shock:0

Didn't realise DA 9000 cassette bodies were carbon until reading that WeightWeenies posting!0

You say you ride DA9000 stuff. You should know the answer about Sram cassettes. If you don't you have a lot to learn.0 -
So far my force ones have been fine. they are all metal, and have lasted pretty well.0

Even if I could afford Dura Ace I'd still have an Ultegra cassette. Carbon spiders and Ti sprockets on a consumable item seems like sheer madness to me.
In my defence I was brought up in Yorkshire.0 -
SRAM REd are good as they are monoblock cassettes. dont EDCO do an 11 speed steel and light monoblock cassette. ultegra are good. Miche are cheaper and a bit heavier but still shift fine. More ratios to choose from as well.
DA cassette breaking you are not the first and wont be the last.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0 -

Back from holiday now so contacted Madison today who say I must return it to a shimano dealer/shop with a receipt/proof of purchase. I don't have the original receipt any longer as I bought it last year and cannot remember where I actually did get it from (at 50 years old my memory is failing me!).
Am I screwed?! I could look at my bank debits for the last year or so i guess but sheeesh, really?!! :shock:0 -
I buy pretty much everything online so can just search my inbox for receipts. Failing that if you're in good with your LBS I'm sure they can find you one...English Cycles V3 | Cervelo P5 | Cervelo T4 | Trek Domane Koppenberg0
