Thruxton Race

Don't normally post many of my race videos on here but Thruxton is a bit special because:
a. Hardly anybody gets to race there these days
b. It's the fastest circuit in the UK
c. It was a fab race - Ford Falcon (4.7 litre), Lotus Cortina, Austin Sprite, BMW 2002

The first part of our race was stopped due to a big accident (there are no small accidents at Thruxton) on oil with an MGC being wrecked.

I finished 2nd in class to the BMW by 0.3 sec (unfortunately my GoPro ran out of memory space a lap or so before the end)

Anyhow this is one of the better ones (the fastest I went through Church - the fastest right-hander - was at 110mph - average lap speed was around 90mh)

Rookie error when you let that blue mini through... :-)

You could have done with Di2... that stick looks a bit clunky... :-)

It's OK, I have this on order

Thruxton is an interesting circuit - if you get held up or make an error around one half of the circuit, you pay for it a mile or so later on that long uphill "straight" after Church (110mph corner). The rookie error with the Mini was getting held up by it into the chicane.

Imagining the reaction if someone posted photos of their latest sportive ride in Pistonheads' 'Advanced Driving' forum (closest to Commuting) ;) Just goes to show what a nice bunch us dual-mode cycle/motorist types here are :)

    Good work!

It is one of the only UK tracks I have not had my Motorbike round. They don't run bike track days round there sadly :(

It is an awesome and fast track. Not somewhere you want to get it wrong. Especially on a Motorbike.

It's Commuting Chat not Road Race ;)

My step-dad has a beautiful Austin Healey 3000. Doubt he'd dare take it on a track!

I'll watch that at some point, can't really from work unfortunately. Thruxton is a great track, been round it a few times on track days in the past. Much slower now there are a couple of chicanes. Once got it very sideways on the kink at the back when I hit a damp patch, I was very glad I caught it, as was my passenger.

Don't you work in the automotive industry!? Surely it's encouraged

oh man, that's an awesome car! Have you got any more pictures of it? How much of the restoration/race prep have you done?

You can see some of the history of my time with it at www.alfa.me.uk though it's years out of date now. I basically prepared it myself from a bit of a rusty heap. Then crashed it and rebuilt it again. The bit I haven't done is the engine tuning work - it's too specialised for DIY.
