Full Carbon Fork

I'm replacing a carbon fork with alloy steerer and considering buying a full carbon fork. Is there anything I need to be wary of? Can I continue to use the same headset and stem?

Currently I have a FSA FSA No.10AY internal/integreated threadless headset and 3T alloy stem.

Thanks!

you'll need an expander plug, this may be included with the fork, if not get one that matches the internal diameter of the steerer and that is long enough to cover the full length that will be clamped by the stem

if the headset uses a crown race you'll need a new one to put on the new fork, i wouldn't try removing/re-using the old one (unless its the split type, they come off easily), you can improvise a tool to set a race on the new fork with a bit of pipe/whatever, a smidge of grease will help it go on

to cut the steerer a 48tpi hacksaw blade is good, wrapping the area to be cut may help keep the edge neater, make sure to cut it straight, and measure several times before you cut :)

depending on the expander, you may need to add a thin spacer above the stem, 2-3mm should be enough

You can keep the same headset and stem.

if you have a metal star nut fitted to the alloy forks. You'll need to buy a headset expander bung.

If your alloy forks are tapered at the bottom. The carbon forks need to have the same taper.

how would I know if it uses a crown race? I haven't taken it apart yet, guess that would help..

most headsets of this type use a crown race, see...

it ships with the headset, you may be able to get one as a spare but it's not an expensive headset, you may as well get a new one and keep the old bearings as spares

Thanks I see.. nothing every straightforward is it. Was hoping to use the existing headset. So basically I have to force the crown race onto the steering column of the new fork? And also take the bearings out of the headtube..

May be simple and straight-forward to transfer old headset over to new fork. Bearings should just drop out of head-tube. Crown race is often easy to slide down steerer if you use a bit of light grease - esp if it is of the split type.
