Hello, newbie here. So I've decided to take the plunge and buy a MTB, I'm planning to use cyclescheme so am a bit limited on where to buy from. Planning on using it for trails (have been out using hired bikes, men's or unisex) and some canal path/park riding. I'm female, 5'4" with inseam of 31" and quite petite so have been looking at women's specific bikes mainly, (though my head starts to hurts when I'm reading through the pro's and cons of these). Looking for a hard tail, budget c£500 and avoiding anything magenta/glittery etc. Been looking in the sales and found this one that I quite like:

I went to have a look on the w/e but they didn't have one at the branch I went to, so will planning to try again. In the interim, not knowing a huge amount about bikes, just want some reassurance that I'm not being blinded by looks/brand and that I'm not about to waste £500.....any thoughts (or more info required)?

That's pretty bad for the money. I ride with plenty of women, most much better than me, and none ride women spec bikes. Just change parts that are necessary, like saddles maybe.

Have a look in this thread, viewtopic.php?f=20005&t=13068514
and 13 Incline Alpha at £360 from Halfords.

Much more bang for your buck.

Have a Look at the Rockrider 540 or 560 from Decathlon

13 incline alpha is pretty much sold out everywhere, Rockriders are not very good specced this year compared to last years and they also don't come in small sizes (she's 5 ft 4....)

I know alot of women that ride Lappeieres but you'd struggle to get a Lappiere for £500 2nd hand, My sister rides a 13 incline small (16") she's 5 foot 6, she loves it, if you can find a 13 incline in stock then go for it, I've actually just bought one!

If you don't mind going direct I'd strongly recommend the Canyon AL 3.9 comes in XS size and fantastic spec for the money
