Stem length. How long is too long.

Coming from a road background I'm looking to do a few cx races this winter sx nd just wondering re bike size. I'm 6ft 2 and ride a large size frame. Picked up a second hand cx bike recently and it has a 10mm stem on it. I feel the bike is a touch small with said stem. Just wondering would it be OK cx "rule" wise if I threw a 120mm stem on it or should I sell it a d get a bigger frame

Lots of large size bikes are specced wtih 11 cm stems, right? A cm or so either way should be fine. Also, stems are cheap, so try it out.0 -
I run exactly the same setup as my road bike in terms of reach and seat height, setback etc, as do most people so start from there. Some CX bikes actually have a shorter toptube then the equivalently sized road bike so you may actually need a slightly longer stem to achieve the same reach.0

120mm stem is fine. Wout van Aert runs a roadie type position, with a big saddle to bar drop, and it obviously works for him. I seem to recall reading that he has a 120 or even 130mm stem, although I can find it now.
Usually a cross frame is slightly shorter than a road frame, so running your normal stem length is quite normal.0 -
