Looking for a winter do it all, manky wet highland roads, trails and paths... Looking to maintain fitness on the road instead of just the turbo

Lot's of gravel bikes can be had for that budget, although the XLS will also do the job, probably...0

Yup - it sounds like a gravel/adventure bike fits the bill. I used mine on the fire roads in the Highland winter and it was great.
