Aldi kit

  • I'll bear that in mind next Lidl cycle sale. When do they do theirs? Spring and Autumn like ALDI?
  • I'm an xl normal and the cheaper aldi shirts fit OK but the performance version is quite a bit smaller and is a bit tight. I'm sort of in-between at the moment as cheap version is a bit too big and performance xl has got too tight - working on it though.
I quite rate their clothing, I'm no pro so for the commute it works. Zip off jackets are good in spring autumn when it's not too cold as they had mesh down inner arms and side of body. They also did a warmer version which is solid and a fair bit warmer. Only thing I think need work is their rain jackets. Sleeves were too short and no dropped back but it does have side vents.
The cheap tights are a bit restrictive so it can cause a bit of kneecap pain but for under a tenner they are OK. The pro version is lighter and more stretchy but not so warm. Like said before the style and cut changes each year. Not seen today's yet. Going after work but don't need much. Mrs said "you need more ?!" so I dung in draws to prove I need more pant and found four pairs mm mm maybe a shirt then :)
  • Well we need milk so I'll be going for that.

Looking forward to using them on journey back from pub in dark! Very good gear had no probs with anything
Brought in last year from Aldi , was given tip to use them by a roadie I know,
Also brought a repair stand from pure gadgets on Amazon delivery couple days late but stand good

Anyone tried the new winter jacket? Bought one last year which is fine for short distance commuting but not that breathable

I've bought the performance jacket and the 16.99 jacket online, still waiting for mine to turn up to work out which one to keep ( based on sizing more than anything)

Had the winter jacket last year, loved it for <5 until a tumble tore it to shreds, so hoping this years one is similar.

Does the rear light come with a saddle mount rail? Im awaiting my two.
Are the mounts interchangeable with last years pack?

Yes I can't use as I have a tool bag to keep my lock and Allen key in has a nice little swivel mount on
Thinking about ditching bag , can't comment on whether last years mounts will fit

The 9.99 set comes with two rubber band fixings, one for each light. Each 12.99 single lights comes with three fixings: rubber band, saddle rails and saddle bag clip.

Both types of light have the same square male tab which slides into the fixings, so are interchangeable.

They also are the same as my previous Moon branded comet light. So I assume they will be interchangeable with last years Aldi.

Cheers. BTR has a video on youtube about it now as well.
I had a 3d Mount saddle mount printed for last years one that had longer arms to allow it to go further rear on the saddle rails so it sits tight up against the saddle so that It can be seen over the pannier mounted top bag.

  • Anyone bought the Turbo trainer?
  • Anyone bought the Turbo trainer?

Yes, though I have nothing to compare it to. All I can say is that it remained solid when I brought my awesome power into play!

One slight niggle is that my crank catches very occasionally on the cooling fins on the fluid resistance part. I was using my hybrid bike (Giant Roam 1)...might have to modify the set up slightly.
  • Mike, you might want to turn your bike round in the trainer,

  • Well bugger me that's annoying.
Got both winter perf jacket in xl and winter jacket in L as that was the biggest they do.
    Neither fit.
Last year they had the perf in L and the winter jacket in xl, so very annoyed that neither fit now. Grrr. Going to have to spend a lot more money on a winter jacket now.

  • Returned to store to return the jkts and see what to change them for.
All insulated jkts gone, except two small ladies ones, however the jacket looked really good, and a good replacement for the one I tore (less insulating but more breathable)
    All nebulas gone
All leg warmers in xl gone (thought I'd ordered a pair, turns out I'd ordered a second set of arm warmers )
But bought a merino cycling hat just cos I don't have any head cover at all other than the helmet.

Strange, I'm pretty sure my local Aldi had the winter jackets in XL (South Shields). Although it would have been ideal body wise, enough room for 1 or 2 layers underneath, the arms were too short when stretched forward.

Gave the Performance Winter Jacket a test ride today.
Hot. Too hot at 10 degrees. Perfect in a month or two as was fine first thing at 3 degrees.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

I didn't think much of the winter jackets but do like the premium winter jerseys a lot! I ended up buying the twin pack of usb led lights for 9.99. Very bright and look good but I am struggling to find the flash setting only have 3 solid brightness settings. Packing says they do flash..

Look up the instructions for the "Comet" model on the Moon lights website. The models are remarkably similar (!) and the instructions are a bit more comprehensive than the ALDI ones.
  • 3 second hold to swap between steady and flash on the Noom Comets (I found it easy to then end up having the lights turn off completely).

Far simpler on the Noom Nebulas, same as the Moon, quick double press.

Ah-ha! So I tried all combinations when it was powered on but didn't think to try turning it on by holding down for 3 seconds! All good. Very impressed with the lights, just hope they hold out in the heavy winter rain now

Really? Hmm. They had the £29.99 performance jackets in xl, but the 16.99 ones only came at L as largest (according to their site anyway) but both were for 116-121 chest. The performance one was perfect in chest, but short in arms and slightly short in body, but that aligns with last year's performance jacket, whereas the cheaper one I couldn't do the zip up in without pulling my shoulders into a hunch, and the arms were too short.

The insulated one (19.99) is the one I've not tried yet, but desperately trying to get hold of, I think a friend grabbed one today but not sure. Hoping thats got a bit more length in body and arms, like last years £16.99 'winter jacket' was. So confusing and annoying.

Next year, if I'm in the same boat, I'll just flood the order with the largest in all of their jackets on offer and decide then!

They do, I have a Planet X version, and it's been in a couple of heavy downpours.
Just be careful not to pull the rubber USB cover off, it pulls out of it's hole easily, and needs to be taken apart to refit
  • Got the Mrs a winter jacket and that was spot on female sizing description.

I got the gloves, winter and lobster. They have the feel of much more expensive gloves. The winter ones are very Gore like in feel. The lobster not a million miles away from the Pearl Izumi ones (but seem to have a better inner). The only criticism of either is that the velcro isn't wide enough so if you do the quite baggy wrists of the lobsters up you're left with a large overhanging attachment
