rear derailleur not springy
Good evening.
I noticed my rear derailleur wasn't picking up the slack in the chain so I removed it and tried to clean it. When I put it back on the bike I noticed that the upper jockey wheel was very close to the cassette.
If I pull down on the derailleur cage, the jockey wheel moves away from the cassette.
Similarly, if I pull the derailleur body backwards, the jockey wheel moves away from the cassette.
So - does the problem lie in the pivot between the cage and the derailleur body, or between the derailleur and the mech hanger?

Assuming it was ok before, then either the b-screw is out of adjustment, or you have not set the mech properly against the b-screw stopper when re-fitting.0

As above, it sounds like you've got the rear B-screw jamming against the hanger.
If the derailleur itself was sticking before, rather than just cleaning it, a strip, clean and re-greasing of the main pivots would be best. Once done they operate like new again. This guide runs through it. http://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-help/rear-derailleur-overhaul
It could also be a problem with the freehub (on the hub) if the rear derailleur is working well.0
