Insoles

I've had a few pairs of shoes which are comfy for a couple of hours but my feet then start to cramp up.
It's hard to try some insoles and send them back if they aren't any good :-)

Any advice on insoles? Specialized do a few and I find their body geometry stuff really good, but don't know which would suit.

Orthosoles work for me...customisable, and transformed my Sidis (which have terrible insoles). About £40 a pair.

Super feet work really well for me. There are many variations, but yellow is recommended for cycling. I'm trying their new copper memory foam foot beds at the moment, so far I'm very impressed.

I use the specialized ones. If you go to an authorised specialized dealer they will get you to stand on a heat mat and then tell you which ones you need depending on how high / low your foot arch is.
Numbness though could be due to another part of your set up.
Have you ever had a bike fit??

imho you need to figure out the cause first

    exactly what is happening? where?

for instance maybe the soles are too flexy and the cleat is causing a hot spot, or you maybe need more arch support, or maybe footbeds with a metatarsal button etc. etc.

I rate insoles but agree with advice re a fit. A good fitter will tell you whether you need them.

the shimano heat custom ones, come with arch support wedges and i have to say, transformed my ride comfort - Madison will supply them via a dealer and you can heat them in a normal oven, google for how, its around 75' and just a few minutes i recall, over heat them, they shrink and are useless.

I got some brand new blue Specialized body geometry insoles if you want them. Tried them once, but not for me.

I tried Speciliazed blues but they gave me terrible numbness in my toes, to the point where I had to take them out of my shoes and ride home without insoles.

I have a high arch and need a bit of support, I tried a few insoles from ebay and settled on Slim Flex ones in the end, they work well for me in my Bonts, which obviously can be heat moulded to your feet too.

Yeah, think the blues are for people with flatter feet

Yeh blue were recommended to me based on my foot print on the BG Fit pressure plate, but just didn't work for me.

Could've gone for the greens to try but didn't.

Fitter should advise really, particularly if you think your foot numbness is coming from lack of arch support or collapsed arches. I have some adjustable arch support insoles (you add/remove shims to change support level) that someone off here recommended and they've been great for me, I can't for the life of me remember what they are called though :/
  • Lake do some heat mouldable ones.
  • I have the specialised green ones picked through bike fitting advice (helps to keep knee inline). Feel abit intrusive to begin with but helped with previous knee pain
  • Probably should add these were due to inadequate arch support from original in soles

Not good advice. Many people find Superfeet insoles to be fantastic, and the OP doesn't have your feet, he has his own.

OP, you are going to have to try some to see what works, only you have your feet. Also, the same insoles will feel different in different shoes.
