1x10 advice please

As per my last post I'm just acquainting myself with a 2012 Giant Trance, which had been recently converted to 1x10. With some help from the forum I've resolved the dropped chain issue (chain too long) and now looking for some gearing/ratio advice before I make a possible new cassette purchase.
The bike is 26 inch wheels and running 32T N/W with 11-36 cassette but I have to admit I'm struggling little on the hills that my 650b HT (27/42, 12-36) would make light work of. I hear you already..... 'man up!'
I've done some research on gear ratios and speeds and am considering changing the rear cassette to a Sunrace unit either 11-40 or 11-42 but want to check I was on the right track before wasting £40+
Figures below, which appear to show the 11-42 being the closest match to my 650b set up:
old 650b HT - ratios 0.75-3.5, speed 5.0-23.2mph
Trance with 32T N/W:
11-36 - ratios 0.89-2.91, speed 5.9-19.3mph
11-40 - ratios 0.80-2.91, speed 5.3-19.3mph
11-42 - ratios 0.76-2.91, speed 5.1-19.3mph
I'm running a shimano Deore XT long cage rear mech, which I understand will work with both Sunrace units.
