brake quick release lever set up

Just noticed my brake quick release lever is set fully open but the bakes are set up correctly. How do you alter the set up so the lever is closed and brakes are set up. If that makes sense. Is it a case of release the nut at the lever to slacken the cable. Close the lever set the brake to desired space from rim and re tighten the lever nut

    first use the barrel adjuster on the brakes to reduce cable tension

    then do up the qr

    then use the adjuster to set the correct pad distance - about 1-2mm from the rim is typically ok

    if the qr hasn't enough range, you'll need to adjust the cable tension...
