Seems strange that she stands trial. Did she know that his lawyer had influence over the judge ? Was that her responsibility ?

Yes, he was a politician in the Socialist government under Mitterand, which seems like an odd match, I remember he even held a ministerial position for cities or something. Maybe Lagarde has some personal connection to Tapie or through friends. The networks at that level are both extensive and very close.

Saw Tapie in a pub one day, the guy is uglier in real life than on TV - like a muppet with a mouth that goes from ear to ear. His daughter, Sophie, who looks a lot like dad, is a bit better quite surprisingly.
