So I tried to change the front derailleur cable tonight and whilst at it, replace my ruined barrel tensioner which is screwed into the down tube. Tried to remove it, thought it was turning and then realised as it came away the thread was still screwed in and it had sheared! Any tips for removal please? Not sure I can drill it out due to the angle etc!

Have just left the cable off so am running small cog only, looking forward to spinning out on my 15% descent tomorrow morning!!

depends a bit on the exact construction, but generically...

first, put some acf-50 or penetrating oil on it to try and loosen it

as it's already got a hole through the middle, you should be able to get a small screw extractor in it, then use pliers to turn the extractor, put some heavy tape on the frame to protect it from damage if/when the pliers slip

is there any of it poking out still? if so I'd try penetrating fluid and some mole grips to get a good hold of it to turn it.

failing that i'd drill it out
