Hi new to the forum and currently trying too choose my first road bike.
I have narrowed it down too 2 choices because i get even more of a discount on these through work.
Giant defy 0 2016 and Specialized Allez sport 2016.

Obviously the giant has the better groupset but im just wondering if people would pay out the extra money for it? Really finding it hard to choose at the moment!

You're not really comparing like with like. Better spec bikes are going to cost more, which is a fact of life. If your budget stretches to the Giant, then I would get that.0

£250 for an upgrade to an Ultegra mixed groupset looks pretty good to me. But depends whether you can afford that £250 difference or not. If you can, go for it.0

Check the fit and size of these - easiest way is to comare the stack and reach figures.
Ultegra is better than sora. Maybe you can try to find an option with 11 speed 105 which is supposed to be very good and priced below Ultegra.0 -
If the geometry of the Defy appeals to you then Yes! Buy the Giant. Ultegra 11spd is way better than Sora. And almost as good as Dura Ace. It will future proof the bike as well as the wheels will be 11 speed compatible. And the Axis wheels on the Specialized wont be. If you ever want to upgrade the Allez to 11spd you'll need a new rear wheel too. Also the cables at the front are hidden and look more 'pro' and less 'fred'.0

If this is your first foray into road biking and you're not sure if you're going to stick with it then I'd get the cheaper one - providing it fits you.
If you're sure you're going to be road riding then look for the one that fits you best anyway. Btw - not sure I'd get the Allez from that selection - I'd get at least tiagra, if not 105 ... the Giant isn't full ultegra groupset either.0
