Bike heavier than expected?
Here's my setup, I weighted it today at the bike shop and it came out 8.030kg, where does the extra 500g come from? Am I missing something? :roll:
Shimano 105 Groupset = 2500g
Fulcrum Racing 3 = 1550g
Planet X Pro Carbon frameset = 1520g
GP 4000S II x2 = 550g
Tubes = 200g
Fizik Cyrano R3 = 245g
Fizik Aliante R3 = 220g
Deda Superleggero = 176g
Pro Stem = 145g
A530 pedals = 383g
Total = 7489g

Cable inners, outers, skewers, seat clamp, bottle cages, headset - but does it really matter? If it's that much of a concern just leave your drink bottles at home, or ditch the heavy touring pedals...0

Not really, but was just curious. Any pedal recommendations? I am using MB shoes.0

As the weight goes down, the price goes up. Depends how much you want to spend and how badly you want to save 150g.0

Does the groupset include the chain?
And those weights aren't exact anyway.0 -
As above, it is all the incidentals that add up, even little things like bolts and bartape but fret ye not.
When it comes to pedals then it is worth looking in the Road Buying Advice section as this comes up fairly frequently. You can get very good MTB (SPD 2 bolt) pedals for not a lot, Shimano M520 are fairly perfect in terms of performance and price, after that it is all about saving a few grammes and spending more. The M540 is probably the sweet spot for price/weight but the M9000 XTRs are very nice indeed for the £60 they will cost.0 -

Yeah, found the weights on google for the 105 - 5700 groupset but I guess you are right.Bobbinogs wrote:The M540 is probably the sweet spot for price/weight but the M9000 XTRs are very nice indeed for the £60 they will cost.
These are heavier than my current ones as they weight 410.0 -

Nope, the M540s weigh 352g so a little lighter than the 383g A530s, albeit one would be hard pressed to tell. The uber nice M9000 ZTR pedals are 310g which shows just how much you have to pay to shave off small increments...and why obsessively chasing equipment weight losses is ultimately futile/stupidly expensive in the real world!0 -
Are you working from manufacturer stated weights or have you weighed everything? For example, your frame could well vary from a stated weight by at least 10%.
But, as others have said, it's pretty much irrelevant,are you noticeably faster if you leave your bidon at home?0 -
8kg is not a bad weight, as others have said there are numerous "extras" that add up. One example is the frame weight, I assume this includes the fork but may not include the headset.WyndyMilla Massive Attack | Rourke 953 | Condor Italia 531 Pro | Boardman CX Pro | DT Swiss RR440 Tubeless Wheels

Just used the manufacturer weight's, add the small parts the others mentioned and I guess it adds up.
I was just wondering that's all0 -
You can save 100g by using Conti supersonic inner tubes, they weigh 50g each.WyndyMilla Massive Attack | Rourke 953 | Condor Italia 531 Pro | Boardman CX Pro | DT Swiss RR440 Tubeless Wheels

Will look into it the next time, thanks.0

Ritchey WCS Paradigm mountain bike pedals come in at 225g and work with shimano cleats. I've had a pair on my road bike for the last year and they've been fine so far. They're currently £110 on Wiggle but I paid £71.67 for mine so worth holding out for when they have them on offer.0
