Anyone have any ideas if I can replace the 'Acros' branded split upper headset (Canyon style) on my 2014 Focus Izalco with a standard upper headset cup and expander bung? The Acros one is costly to replace (100e) and to be fair has been pretty awful from day one as it needs needs regular adjustment and often loosens itself off. The little grub screw is now rounded off and the rubber dust cover between top and bottom parts of the upper headset is now trashed. Plus I wouldn't mind fitting a zero stack top cup to get my bars a little lower. I tried the upper off a different bike in and although the bearing was the right size the cup was too small to fully cover the headtube, so I'm not entirely convinced its a standard size

Sorry, complete side track but is it an Izalco or Izalco Max? There was a recall on a tiny number of those so at least you'd get a free headset out of it!

"Focus Bicycles, in cooperation with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada, has announced the recall of model year 2014-2015 Izalco Max bicycles fitted with Acros brand headsets. The recall affects about 510 road bikes and is due to potential for failure of the carbon fiber steerer.

The headsets are black with the word "Acros" printed on the upper portion in white lettering. According to the CPSC, the headset can cause the steerer to crack. The firm has received 11 reports of incidents outside the US, including one reported injury in France. No incidents have been reported in the US."

Mine is an 'Izalco Team' but that is interesting as it has exactly the same awful Acros headset. I should probably get in touch with the dealer and check if mine is affected.

Just so everyone knows in case this comes up in Google searches at a later date, the awful Acros headset can be replaced with the FSA Orbit C-33 ACB Headset (currently £35 at CRC instead of 100E for the Acros item). No recall on the Izalco Team either, apparently the steerer is constructed differently on the Izalco Max.
