Hundreds of riders through Epping - Saturday night 16th July

I was sat my desk yesterday evening watching the world go by when an unusually large number of cyclists started passing. They were heading east along Epping High Street (away from London).
There must have been several, several hundred. Countless groups in club gear, lots of people with all sorts of flashing lights etc.
They were coming past for at least an hour and it was getting dark so perhaps a charity night ride?
I'm really curious what the ride was as haven't seen anything on that scale before!
