This race has understandably gone unnoticed as it had been bumped up the schedule due to the Olympics.

However that doesn't mean that we should ignore possibly the ride of the season so far.

The course was tough. The weather was foul. 185 started, only 100 finished.

25 minutes after the winner only 33 riders had finished - mostly alone.

So chapeau to Tim Wellens. He attacked two hours from the finish. Some accompanied him, but they fell away. He won by almost 4 minutes.

Saw a bit of this - looked really tough. Wellens is good at that sort of ride, and is obviously very strong. Chapeau!

    I've been watching.
Agree that yesterday was typical Tim, parcour and weather right up his alley.

However, I am starting to get an uneasy feeling about Beñat Intxausti.
One off Lantern Rouge in Solvenia.
Last but one, last, then DNF here.
Does anybody know what is going on with him?

Looks like Benoot might be getting some form for later in the season following a problematic few weeks.
  • Looked a very hard tour - 102 dnf'd by the end - stage 5 seemed to do the trick which Wellens smashed. On that day the two younger riders Formolo , Benoot and Bettiol (?) also did well (2nd 3rd and 5th on stage) and Felline and all these were top 5 CC at the end - Wellens winning it overall of course

No white jersey comp but younger legs seemed to prevail in this edition
