Swapping hub end caps on Reynolds Assault SLG disc

Hi

I'm trying to swap the hub ends caps from QR to TA on my newly bought Assault SLG disc wheels. I'm told it's as simple as pulling them out and pushing in the new ones. That worked for the front but I'm getting nowhere on the rear. Has anybody done this and is there a knack?

    Piece of old inner tube to protect the cap and a pair of mole grips just tight enough to grip securely to pull out?
