Pin configuration on flat pedals

I have my nice shiny new pedals for my Nukeproof Mega build.
These have 2 sets of pins - long (10mm) & short (8mm).
Non fitted at the moment, do I just decide either long or short (depending on how deep I want them to imbed in my shins....) and just whack em' in or is there a bit more science involved? i.e. long around edge, short in the middle?
Have done a bit of google-ing but not coming up with anything helpful - other than the 'depends on how deep you want them to imbed in your shins'.
TIA

Depends on how much you want them to in-bed in your shins!
The pedal body should dictate the shape, pins should all be the same length, I'd start with 8mm and if you want more swap up, you won't know if you could have only had the smaller holes in your shin otherwise!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
I can't see the point of more than a few mm protruding.I don't do smileys.

Thanks guys - will put one of each through and see how much protrudes.
Is it necessary to use Loctite on the pins when I put them in?_______________

Put both long & short in to compare and decided the long were too long. The shorter are longer than the pins in my current pedals.
Will see how they go._______________

What pedals are they?
I bought some nano X that came with both sizes and found the shorter pins were fine from the first use, didn't bother with long pins0 -
Yeah they're Nano X's and have gone with the short pin. They're longer than the pins on my current pedals so will see how they go._______________

I got a S/H pair of Nano X that had been set up with longer pins on the outer edge and front, shorter pins on the inner edge, middle and trailing edge. I just assumed that this was all in accordance with some theory of the best way to do it, and it worked very well.Specialized Roubaix Elite 2015
